Michael L. Ellison, P.E.
Michael Ellison serves as Principal/Senior Engineer and District Manager for PPM Consultants, Inc. Birmingham, Alabama, office and holds professional engineering licensure in three states. He has over 25 years of experience in the environmental field ranging from general environmental compliance to soil and groundwater contamination assessments and remedial actions. Michael has managed all aspects of these projects including, construction stormwater permitting/compliance; development of hydrogeologic assessment work plans; installation of soil borings and groundwater monitoring wells; aquifer testing and analysis; and analysis of soil and groundwater analytical data. Michael has authored many Risk-Based Corrective Action (RBCA) evaluations, utilized to assess current and future risks to human health and the environment and to request site-specific corrective action levels from appropriate regulatory agents. He has also developed corrective action plans for the remediation of soil and groundwater contamination at numerous facilities across the Southeast. Michael has extensive experience associated with remediation system installation, operation, and maintenance, equipment monitoring and optimization, and equipment demobilization upon obtaining site objectives. He has over 27 years of experience managing remedial action projects. In his free time, you can find Michael enjoying time with his wife and children or remembering those times when he used to play golf, hunt, and fish.

Mike McCown, P.G.
Mike McCown is a founding member of PPM Consultants, Inc. and has over 30 years of experience in the environmental field. Mike is a registered professional geologist in three states. His technical expertise includes soil and groundwater contamination assessment and remediation, due diligence associated with real estate transactions, brownfields redevelopment, environmental studies, and regulatory compliance. Mike has a wide range of experience in the environmental field throughout the southeastern United States. He is responsible for client and regulatory agency communication, contract and regulatory negotiations; project management; quality assurance/quality control; technical review of documents, training and managing technical staff; management of day-to-day company affairs including financial management, human resources, risk management, and development of long-term business strategies. Mike resides on a mountaintop near Birmingham, whose primary passions include his family, his Christian faith, traveling the U.S in an Airstream, and numerous outdoor hobbies and pursuits.

Senior Geologist/Project Manager
Matt Ebbert, P.G.
Matt Ebbert is a Project Director/Senior Geologist in PPM’s Birmingham, Alabama office. Matt holds professional geology licensure in five states. With over 29 years of experience in the environmental field, Matt began his career in 1993 and he joined PPM Consultants as a Senior Geologist in 2008. While employed at PPM, Matt Ebbert has been in responsible charge of subsurface investigations and remediation projects including project management; coordination and implementation of field projects; data interpretation and analyses; and report preparation. Project-related experience includes work performed at RCRA, CERCLA, UST, Brownfields, due diligence, HSRA, and non-regulated sites. Specific project duties have included the development and implementation of sampling plans, cost estimating, management of field crews, quality assurance/quality control, report preparation, risk assessments, health and safety, and client development/relations. In his spare time, you’ll find him enjoying a local body of water in his boat with a rod and reel in his hand, if you can find his secret spots.
Principal/Senior Engineer
Zane G. Hood, Jr., P.E.
Zane Hood serves as a Principal/Senior Engineer and Regional Manager over PPM’s Birmingham, Mobile, Pensacola, and Orlando offices where he has full responsibility for financial and technical oversight of the offices. Zane holds professional engineering licensure in six states. He has over 30 years of experience as an environmental engineer with a focus on assessment and remediation of soil and groundwater contamination and a broad range of industrial compliance and permitting. As a Principal in the firm, Zane is responsible for operations including project management, client and regulatory relationships, training, and health and safety. Other duties include business development, talent recruitment, resource allocation, annual budgeting, and strategic planning for the company. Prior to his employment at PPM, Zane was a senior project manager with an Alabama-based consulting firm where he established much of his technical expertise. In his spare time, he enjoys time with his family, travel, golf, hunting and fishing, motorcycling, and serving at his community Church.
Senior Engineer/Project Manager
Paul Hansen, P.E.
Paul is a project manager in PPM’s Birmingham, AL office with over 13 years of experience in the environmental field. Mr. Hansen has a wide range of environmental experience; however, his concentrated area of expertise is in air permitting and compliance. Expertise includes air permit preparation and associated reporting, air dispersion modeling, Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Best Management Practices/Stormwater Pollution Prevention (BMP/SWPP) Plans, Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) Reporting, Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) Reporting, Tier II chemical inventory reporting, and regulatory compliance. Paul also excels in providing multi-media environmental compliance audits with respect to the Clean Air Act (CAA), Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and services related to ISO 14001 and Responsible Care. Prior to joining PPM’s regulatory compliance team, Paul worked as an air permit engineer with the Air Division of the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM) (July 2009 – December 2014) specifically regulating and inspecting pulp and paper facilities and chemical facilities. He is responsible for client and regulatory agency communication, proposal and work plan preparation, and preparation/review of technical documents.
Paul Hansen resides in Trussville with his wife and two children. His passions outside of work are his faith in the Lord, time with his family at home and outdoors, CrossFit, and football.
Senior Geologist/Project Manager
Mike Dillon, P.G.
Mike Dillon has 28 years of environmental experience and is a senior geologist and project manager at PPM. He has extensive experience with projects related to the assessment and remediation of sites in Alabama and Georgia. Project related experience includes work performed at HSRA, RCRA, Brownfields, voluntary remediation, non-regulated, and state trust fund sites evaluating the nature and extent of a large variety of contaminants within a wide range of media and unique site conditions. Experience includes development and implementation of work plans, cost estimating, data interpretation, background concentration calculation, risk evaluation, corrective action evaluation, report preparation, budget control, and coordination with regulatory agencies. Field experience includes management of field crews, site safety coordination, sampling of media, soil boring, rock coring, monitoring well installation, bedrock well installation, installation of remediation systems and technologies, and management of derived waste. Mike has experience developing and implementing pilot tests and corrective action plans for various remedial technologies for soil and groundwater including excavation, in-situ chemical oxidation, pump and treat, dual-phase vacuum extraction, soil vapor extraction, soil stabilization, air sparging, enhanced natural attenuation, and enhanced bioremediation. He spends his personal time with family and friends and enjoys outdoor interests including expedition canoeing and camping, whitewater canoeing, training his two bird dogs, and hunting.
