Risk Assessments

PPM has conducted hundreds of human health and ecological risk assessments over a wide geographic area with a variety of chemicals of concern. PPM was one of the first firms to conduct risk assessments in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, and is a leader in developing site-specific corrective action limits at soil and groundwater contamination sites. PPM’s track record in gaining regulatory agency approval of higher corrective action limits based on site-specific risk factors often results in significant savings in remediation costs for our clients.

Project Highlight

When Hurricane Isaac made landfall, it produced a high storm surge that overtopped levees and resulted in extensive flooding. This caused a release of some chemical products stored in aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) at a chemical storage terminal in the area. PPM was retained to conduct air monitoring, compile site data and prepare Risk Evaluation/Corrective Action (RECAP) workplans for onsite and offsite areas of concern. The RECAP workplans were submitted to the state agency, and upon approval, implemented by PPM. The results of RECAP investigation, combined with the previous investigation data, resulted in a “No Further Action – At This Time” status.
